Vocal artist Françoise Vanhecke and reed player Stephan Vermeersch are both no strangers to the international scene of contemporary music.  As soloist and chamber musicians they have performed at several  festivals all over the world.

They started Duo Phoenix in 2007 and participated at the Sonus Millenium Festival in Syracuse, Italy,  the TwoDaysTwo Nighs International Festival of Modern Art in Odessa, Ukraine and the Is Arti Festival of Contemporary Music in Lithuania.

Duo Phoenix offers also an educational program: master classes & workshops in vocal techniques, clarinets & saxophones, chamber music.

Concerts of contemporary, modern vocal music are rather rare today. Concerts in which voice is not treated as material for sound experiments but is based on academic vocalization sounds even rarer: this is what Duo Phoenix stands for.  The composition of the duet seems intriguing: singer and clarinet/saxophone player.

We invite you to use  5 minutes of your precious  time to find out what we do in our compilation video of live performances:

The program is eye-catching as well: only a few known names and much unheard contemporary vocal music. A real Klondike for artists searching for new experiences. The soprano Françoise Vanhecke and reed player Stephan Vermeersch present a varied program showing the most diverse possibilities of voice and clarinet /saxophone timbre combinations. The performers use their voices, bass and soprano clarinets + saxophones, percussions, and even air balloons as gadgets for expression.
